The Platen press museum
Jen is the de facto executor of Paul Aken’s Platen Press Museum in Zion, IL (about an hour north of Chicago). If you knew Paul, you know how passionate he was about printing and passing on knowledge to future generations of printers. The museum is now in the process of liquidation and everything must go; thankfully we have the time to do this thoughtfully.
The primary focus of this process thus far has been to get items into the hands of printers and educators who will use them, before opening up to larger acquisitions. Jen, along with Tammy & Adam (Red Door Press) will be opening the museum Sunday afternoon from 1-5pm, and Monday from 10am-5pm, if you’d like to add this time to your schedule (this also does not require registration). Almost everything you could need to print is there and potentially available for purchase. It’s also a lot of fun to poke around and see this rare and unique collection. Dissolving the museum has been emotional, hence the slowness of the process. Please be mindful of this when enjoying the space!
Please note the site for the Platen Press Museum is out of date and non-functioning. Direct any questions to Jen.
